Acute coronary syndromes - pharmacological treatment

چکیده
The term acute coronary syndrome (ACS) describes the spectrum of disease from acute myocardial infarction (MI) to unstable angina, as described in the first article of this feature (p285).The primary cause of these diseases is essentially the same — thrombosis of a coronary artery leading to ischaemia and possibly infarction of the myocardium. The degree of ischaemia or infarct size is related to the degree and location of the thrombosis. Since the 1960s, when standard treatment was bed rest and defibrillation (when required), the death rate from acute MI has fallen. This steady decline in mortality has been due to a number of factors:

Pharmacological treatment of acute coronary syndromes.
Many trials have examined the efficacy of medications used in acute coronary syndromes. This paper reviews those now recommended in patients with unstable angina and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. There are currently seven groups of drugs that are used in the management of such patients.

Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are one of the most common causes of hospitalizations in developed countries. Implementation of optimal treatment in these patients is a significant clinical and social problem. Clinical practice guidelines published by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) are focused on crucial tasks such as regular physical activity sufficient to increase exercise capacity, ...
متن کاملCARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE Impact of availability and use of coronary interventions on the prescription of aspirin and lipid lowering treatment after acute coronary syndromes
Background: It has been suggested that patients undergoing acute intervention for coronary syndromes may not receive adequate secondary prevention. Objective: To analyse the impact of availability and use of coronary interventions on the prescription of secondary prevention after acute coronary syndromes. Design: Analysis of a prospective multicentre register of patients admitted to hospital fo...
متن کاملPrognostic value of C-Reactive Protein in Acute Coronary Syndromes
Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is among the most common, serious, chronic and life- threatening illnesses in the world. CAD represents a spectrum of conditions, with acute myocardial infarction at one end of it and silent ischemia at the other. There is growing evidence on importance of prognosis of C- reactive protein (CPR) in unstable angina and this protein is a maker of an adve...
متن کاملInvasive coronary revascularisation is better than conservative treatment in patients with acute coronary syndromes.
New advances in interventional cardiology and antithrombotic pharmacological treatment have modified the risk:benefit ratio of percutaneous interventions in acute coronary syndromes without ST segment elevation. In general terms, invasive strategies have two main limitations. The first stems from the fact that the severity of a coronary stenosis is not an index of the likelihood of the developm...
